Established in 1958
Brothers Frank and Luigi Esposito migrated from Sorrento, Italy, and opened Luigi's on the 1600 block of Simpson Avenue in Ocean City, New Jersey. After a short while, they bought the property where the restaurant stands today, at the corner of 9th Street and West Avenue. Frank had no children and was fond of Luigi's second eldest son, Luigi Jr., so when Frank passed away, Luigi Jr. inherited his half of the business.
For many years it was Luigi Sr. and Luigi Jr. working together. The family expanded, with Luigi Jr. becoming father to three daughters: Dari, Maria, and Danielle. All the daughters grew up at Luigi's and learned everything from Luigi Sr. and Luigi Jr. After Luigi Sr. passed away it was hard for Luigi Jr. to spend a lot of time there, so his daughters stepped in to keep the family restaurant going. Today Luigi's is ran by Dari and her husband Augustus. Not much has changed since Luigi's was started in 1958 . . . still large portions at a reasonable price served at a friendly family restaurant.
